What sort of jewelry should I give my niece for her 16th birthday?

My niece is turning 16, and I’m planning on giving her a piece of jewelry. I would like to choose a design that is both current and timeless so she can wear it today as well as 10 years from now. What kind of design would you recommend? Heart pendant? A bracelet?
