See the staple on your pieces or just take it to a jeweler and ask(no fees will occur if just see..). Not all the pieces could use the same tarnish remover, different metals varied, ask professionals and then use the proper one.. Vian

first, every kind of jewelry made by different metal will be tarnish, some will come later, some will be earlier. it is very important that you have to maintain them well.

ok. normally, the silver pcs is stamped with 925 or other marks; gold pcs will be stamped : 9K, 14K, 18k, au750, etc. platinum will be stamped PT950, PT900. etc.

regarding to the other metals, the orgional metal color will come out if it is tarnish.

i m in china managing one diamond jewelry factory. contact me if you have any questions about it. Diamond King

If it is costume jewelry, it will be base metal, brass most likely and then gold plated, silver plated and rhodium plated. You can clean the silver plated stuff with a sterling silver cleaner, best a cloth. For the other stuff you can get costume jewelry cleaner or just use luke warm water with dish washing liquid. Don't let rhinestones with closed back settings get wet.

Sterling Silver you can clean with a silver cloth or other silver cleaners.

All plated costume jewelry will eventually loose the plating and the unsightly base metal will come through. Nothing you can do about that. If you want to avoid that, you will have to buy jewelry made out of solid material, solid copper, sterling or gold filled. loves_jewels
