If the store offers beading classes, TAKE AT LEAST ONE! Once you are familiar with the basic techniques, spend your money on quality beads. Note on wire....when making a necklace or bracelet, the supplies may list beading wire. This usually refers to "tiger tail" and not a stiffer wire. I think you can get by with a few pairs of pliers. I have a needle nose, a pair of rounded ones and a wire cutter. I also have a special pair for crimping crimp beads on the ends. I was able to get by with just the needle nose ones, but the crimp beads look better and are much easier to crimp with the special pliers. And something to store your stuff in. I found a cute tote at michaels that had three plastic storage things. They all are divided into three sections and the outside sections have slots to put dividers into. They great for sorting my beads out. You can also buy organizers that have little screw top jars that all fit into a larger container, those are kinda cool too. I have one last container for my findings (Clasps and crimp beads and earring loops and stuff) it closes a lot tighter than the other containers I have and I like that because lots of things are really small. You'll also want to have findings and wire. You should be able to find a little kit that has some clasps and some earring stuffs and pins for making dangly earrings and some crimp beads. And for wire, it comes in a few different widths. Go for a couple of sizes, I've got .018 inches and .012 inches (they're medium and extra small respectively) they work pretty well for me. And while you're in the craft store, just check things out. Wire comes in cool colors, they have lots of books and magazines with tips and tricks and ideas.
